Gyokeres plays down Henry comparisons after picking up jersey number

Arsenal's newest recruit, Viktor Gyokeres, has revealed he won't be under pressure to perform despite picking up the famous Thierry Henry number 14 jersey.

The 27-year-old completed a £64m move to Arsenal from Sporting CP last Saturday, and many anticipate the Sweden striker to be the final piece in Mikel Arteta's puzzle as they've fallen short in the race for the English Premier League title for the past three years.

The number 14 jersey has been worn by several players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Eddie Nketiah and Theo Walcott in past seasons, but is famously known as Henry's jersey.

The Frenchman lit Highbury up with 228 goals in 377 games, making him synonymous with Arsenal's number 14 shirt.

While many anticipate the former Coventry striker has big shoes at the Emirates stadium, Gyokeres mentioned it was an "easy" choice to make when selecting his squad number.

"Of course, I know about the history," the former Sporting Lisbon striker said in quotes revealed by BBC UK.
"To be honest, there weren't so many numbers available. There weren't too many to pick from, but of course, that one was available. So when I knew that it was an easy choice to take it."

Henry won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Premier League Golden Boot four times with Arsenal, but Gyokeres is not worried about any comparisons that may come between the two.

"I don't know. It's not really my intention to be compared with what he's achieved in his career."

"Especially here. I just want to do my own thing and show my qualities. Of course, he was an amazing player, but different from me. I just want to try to do my own thing.
"Of course, it's great to see [the reaction of the fans to his arrival]. It's very nice. Of course, that gives you extra motivation.
"I think I have enough expectations of myself. I'll just try to perform anyway," Gyokeres concluded.

Viktor Gyokeres has been tipped to be the vital difference maker in Arsenal's hunt for a Premier League title since 2004.

Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and Alejandro Garnacho have already moved on from the club, and Mainoo wants to follow the same path, following United's shambolic outing against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. Luis Enrique makes stunning admission about PSG's Super Cup win over Tottenham
Paris Saint-Germain head coach, Luis Enrique, has admitted his side were second-best in the UEFA Super Cup final against Thomas Frank's Tottenham Hotspur at the Bluenergy Stadium. Micky Van De Ven broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, profiting from poor defending at the back from PSG, before Cristian Romero did the same three minutes after the restart, although PSG's debuting goalkeeper Timothy Chevalier could've done better in preventing the ball from going. Nottingham Forest plan Manchester City raid with bids for two youngsters
Nottingham Forest are reported to have had a bid rejected by Manchester City for their highly-rated full-back Rico Lewis. French outlet Footmercato claim the Reds are admirers of the 20-year-old, who is also a full England international. But a bid said to be worth £25m, including around £4.3m in performance-related add-ons, has apparently been rejected. Nuno Espirito Santo managed to keep hold of Ola Aina this summer, but is seemingly looking to add more competition to that position. Lewis ma
