Slaven Bilic is keen on West Ham return if Graham Potter is sacked

Former West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is reportedly keen on a dramatic return to the London Stadium, with John Cross of the Mirror claiming the Croatian would be interested in replacing Graham Potter if the Hammers make a change.
Bilic’s name has been floated internally alongside other candidates, but his connection to the club and its fanbase could give him a unique edge. David Sullivan is said to be favouring an interim appointment should Potter be sacked, whilst also touting Bilic as his first-choice.
Potential return for Bilic
Bilic, who last managed West Ham between 2015 and 2017, remains a hugely popular figure among supporters. His first season in charge saw the club finish seventh in the Premier League, with unforgettable victories over Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, as well as a memorable farewell campaign at Upton Park.
According to Cross’ exclusive, Bilic is monitoring the situation closely and would welcome the chance to return to the club he still holds in high regard. With Potter’s position under increasing scrutiny following defeats to Chelsea, Tottenham and Crystal Palace, the possibility of Bilic being considered is growing.
West Ham legends have already spoken fondly of Bilic in recent years. Sir Trevor Brooking once praised the Croatian’s ability to “understand the culture of the club and its fans,” while Tony Cottee described him as a manager who “gets what West Ham is about.” That rapport could count for something at a time when many feel a disconnect between the board, manager and fanbase.
The Mirror report suggests Bilic would be open to working under the current ownership despite the challenges, and he is seen as someone who could galvanise the dressing room quickly. His experience in English football — including more recent spells with West Brom and Watford — means he would be able to step straight back in without a lengthy adjustment period.
Bilic would work with Noble & Collins
Per the Mirror’s John Cross, Bilic is keen to align with club figures Mark Noble and James Collins if he returns — tapping Noble’s day-to-day influence as Sporting Director and James Collins onto his backroom staff.
The idea of a Bilic–Noble–Collins axis will resonate with many West Ham fans who want a clearer identity and stronger leadership around the first team.
While Bilic is not the only name being discussed — with Nuno Espirito Santo, Gary O’Neil and Sean Dyche also in the mix — his affection for West Ham and the respect he commands among supporters make him a compelling option to the board. If Potter’s fate is sealed in the coming weeks, the board will face a huge decision: whether to turn to a familiar face who knows the club inside out, or to pursue a fresh direction.
